How would you rate Frank's Famous Chicken & Waffles?
A nice family establishment with cool decor. The staff was very friendly and the food was tasty. Had the chicken and waffles and the catfish po'boy. Highly recommend.
Tried to go today and arrived at 1045 and waited until they were supposed to open at 11. Closed sign still in window and no one would answer door or phone. Try again at 1115 and still no answer on phone but someone answers the door and tells us to wait another 15 minutes in the cold. He also looked pissed that he had to answer the door. There were 4 other families waiting outside with us. Looks like another reviewer experienced the same thing. If you cannot open at your posted hours then change your start time, maybe to 12. We left and will not bother coming back.
The most amazing food in town. Loved the catfish. Service is top notch
Great chicken and waffles! Went their a second time and got the shrimp and grits and catfish. Shrimp and grits was almost inedible the amount of salt that was in it but the catfish and greens were AMAZING! Very small place e with one waitress, so make sure you're not pressed for time. Oh, and you HAVE to get a Cheesecake to go...
We were put off by the appearance of the restaurant, and we were deciding whether to say or leave, but this voluptuous Black woman inside was waving us in. That's when we met Tiffany--hostess, waitress, and in just an hour, considered a friend. The food is DELICIOUS. Everything seems to be homemade--waffles are out of this world; the chicken is the best I have had in 40 years; the rolls were scrumptious , and the bill was amazingly low. Place is small, so pay attention to their website that gives off-peak hours. (They take all the major credit cards.)
Came in with my best friend and got the catfish po boy and Mac and cheese on the side and I gotta say that it was the best catfish I've had in the city and the mac and cheese was great as well. The service was very friendly and the atmosphere had a great laid back at home feel to it. Will definitely be back in the near future.
Unbelievably crunchy fried chicken. Delicious waffles. Excellent mac and cheese. The only problem with this place is the fact that I didn't know about them sooner!
14 bucks for a nasty 2 piece catfish plate, bland mac and cheese -bet they used velveeta and no seasoning- and bland greens (how do you do that? ) never again! feel like i was robbed! I'm all about giving small businesses a chance but this is a gross misrepresentation of any version of soul food. oh..and dont let me start about the tartar sauce! it was basically runny mayonnaise!!!
Waffles fall apart when you cut through them, pricing is resonable and the chicken is piping hot and fresh. Although, I rated 4 stars, there is a lot to be said about consistency. For example, opening on time, if you are running a business and are late, be at least apologetic to the patrons or just stay at home and keep the doors closed. Nothing like paying to be inconvenienced.
Also, measure out the recipes, depending when you go and who is in the kitchen the Kool-aid is either too sweet or not sweet enough, chicken seasoning is either bland or perfectly right and finally, the mac and cheese... doused in creamy cheese or dehydrated.
The restaurant could also stand a good cleaning but I guess the allure is that it is soul food and supposed to mimic a home cooked meal.
I absolutely love this place. Tiffany, our hostess was extremely nice and friendly. The food was awesome. I had the Jr. Waffle Plate with three wings, Mac N' Cheese, and Turtle Cheesecake! Frank, the owner took pictures with us and made our experience memorable. We will definitely visit again.
Loved the shrimp n grits bowl. The best Ice tea I've found. Most taste like colored sugar water. Home cooking and a awesome staff. Went with a party of 6 and all were happy and full.
This was my 1st experience with Chicken and Waffles, but while in New Mexico I was told it was a must I come here, and OMG was it the best, I really don't have a benchmark for good Chicken & Waffles so this has set the bar really high, thanks guys loved it.
This place was so good. The waitress was excellent and cool. The food was absolutely delicious the seasoning in the batter was outstanding I would go to this place over and over again. Come here to eat whenever you got a little bit of time it is absolutely the best chicken and waffles. They also play music James Brown and Prince and cool like 80's stuff
This place is amazing! It feels like you are eating at home with family. The service is great and I tell everyone I know to come here. The food is amazing and if it's your first time going by you need to try the chicken and waffles but absolutely everything is great!
Wonderful meal! Great comfort food. Best mac 'n cheese ever. Chicken was very crispy and best of all not greasy. The Kool-aid, though, my kid got it and I drank like half of it. They have the best taste is soul music...EVER!
We have been to Frank's several times.... We looove getting the two waffles and six piece chicken and sharing it with a couple jars of kool aid! Fried pickles are delicious... The cheesecakes sold there are great.. And today we tried the cheesy onion eggs and they were amazing! Great food as always... We will be back soon! Frank and his staff are always friendly and conversational, and we love the decor!
Awesome down home cooking. Catfish was the bomb. And the cheesy grits oh my!!!!. Will be back for sure
Felt like a home cooked meal
Very good food, best friend chicken i had, friendly owner and waitress, will come again next time I visit new Mexico.
Small place, amazing food! Don't let the outside looks fool you. This place has the best fried pickles, as well as the namesake chicken and waffles. The portions are extremely generous for the price. If you're just passing through, definitely make sure this is one of your stops. Also be sure to try the iced tea!
Amazing chicken great waffles. Best in town for a reasonable price. More on the menu than the name implies. Great appetizers.
Amazing chicken and waffles. Good atmosphere. Don't let the outside scare you away. You will not leave hungry.
Best soul food in Albuquerque. Kool-aid and sweet tea don't mess around!
Excellent! Was pleasantly surprised by how delicious the food is. Will definitely be returning to Frank's. Cheese grits are a must.
I wanted to go to Frank's for dinner on a Friday night, and left around 7:00, knowing they close at 8:00 (as informed by Google). I did not want to show up at 7:55 when they are about to close, so I thought I'd call along the way and make sure they'd be prepared, around 7:15. The phone rang maybe 5 or 6 times, and I was then sent to voicemail, where the menu said they closed at 8:00. I called again, and after one or two rings I was sent to voice mail again. Upon arriving to the restaurant at 7:30, the door signed said closed. I was pretty upset then because I really wanted chicken and waffles, and I've heard such good things about Frank's. What most upset me was the fact that I was sent to voicemail, proving someone was there to pick up and tell me they're closed before I drive the whole way there. I will give Frank's a second chance, and hope I can write a good review.
The chicken was super flavorful. The staff wasn't very attentive though. They never came to the table after dropping off the food even though there wasnt hardly anyone in the restaurant. The food was good enough that we will be back though!
No review necessary, just look at the 'Temptation' plate. Oh my goodness, if you're looking for a place to grab a bite and love Southern food then look no further. 10/10 !
Love this place EVERYONE should try Frank's famous chicken and waffles. Everything I've tried has been awesome!! Love them.
This place is the true definition of "hole in the wall" it's a small place with great taste!! amazing first time here and you can tell it's a good place cuz the line started to form even before it opend
Man, I am a brand new fan of this great little place I must have driven past 1000 times, it's an easy to miss, humble place on a busy street, but let me tell you, if you haven't been here, you're missing out. Frank's is terrific for nostalgia lovers, and fans of down home cooking and great food. The service was super friendly and knew their stuff. The place is decorated with vinyl records and music memorabilia from a variety of classic genres, rock and roll, rap, r&b, country. The waffles were delicious with cinnamon butter and the wings were crispy and hot. I always order too much, but I still nearly finished the fried catfish and mac-and-cheese. The coleslaw was also excellent, with a different sauce than you normally get. It was all washed down with an ice cold glass of grape Kool Aid served in a mason jar. I'm so full! As authentic of a so-cal soul food experience as you can get in Albuquerque. Save me a seat!
great soul food!!! And great friendly wait staff! Good prices! .... I would have given this establishment a 5 star but the cleanliness is not up to my standards...
Great customer service. Smiling faces and food came extremely fast. Food was hot fresh and taste wonderful. Love this place and will be back very soon. Thank you
Was looking for a great chicken and waffle place in Albuquerque and found it here. Retro atmosphere with antique records used for decoration. The pecan and bacon waffle was a tasty treat. Looking forward to brunching here again.
The definition of "feel good food". Great decor and extremely inviting staff make every visit fun. Frank and his staff make you feel like family when you walk in the door. The food is simple but will redefine delicious for you, at a price that makes it a bargain. One bite in and I said to myself "so THAT is what fried chicken is supposed to taste like!" No matter how terrible you feel walking in the door, you'll leave with a smile on your face.
Cleanliness is not up to par, floor super sticky and a hair under my waffle was disappointing. The food tastes excellent though but you gotta invest the time to clean. The mandatory gratuity for parties of four is excessive if you only have 1 ( very nice) waitress. STILL, the kool-aid is everything!!
Just moved to Albuquerque and been seeing this place on Instagram. It was well worth it. Everything was good down to the service and atmosphere. Will definitely recommend this place and will be back soon
This is the single best place for Southern food in Albuquerque. Their fried chicken is perfection, and everything else on the menu sets the high bar for deliciousness. Highly recommend the cheesy grits and smoked turkey greens, too. The service is warm and friendly in a setting that was a former house. Soul records spin while you eat. Blissful dining experience.
Fabulous food. Chicken and waffles to die for. No hot sauce necessary. Fried pickles - best I have ever had. You could taste the dill in the pickles. Great peach cobbler and the best sweet tea. Small dining area. There is a wait for your food, but it's worth it. Fast food that's not. We'll be back!
My only criterion for soul food is authenticity, and Frank's fare is simple and delicious. I had 12x wings, two waffles, and a bowl of greens with a mason jar of tea. It was a perfect sized meal and I felt a nice glow afterwards instead of overstuffed. I felt comfortable driving myself home.
Nice atmosphere and unhurried service as well. The prices are not KFC-grade, and understandable so, as the restaurant doesn't eat or feel like a fast food place. I'm from Georgia and grew up with good soul food, and it's nice to have a spot in Albuquerque.
Best chicken and waffles I have ever had. Better than Roscoe's by far. Great fried pickles and the greens took me back to my great Grandma's Kitchen. if I lived close I would eat here everyday. The waitress was extremely friendly and made you feel comfortable taking your time. Real homey atmosphere.
Simple chicken and waffles, no frills. Good tasting waffles, a little on the light side. Good fried chicken wings. Seating area usually clean and I enjoy the old albums and vinyl plastered on the walls. Prices are reasonable and the food gets to your table in a timely manner. I definitely recommend.
I love soul food! so with that being said. Friendly staff, small but cozy place. I had fried chicken wings, yams, mac and cheese and sweet tea. The yams was from a can with a marshmallow melted on top, the wings needed to be cooked a bit longer and even though the sweet tea was delicious the ice taste like fish. I wasn't able to try their peach cobbler because they had none made at that time. Unfortunately I'm not sure I'll be going back .
Great food! Our server was amazing and the catfish was perfectly fried. The waffles were sweet and the chicken was breaded just right. Left fat and happy! Very reasonably priced as well. Will be back soon.
Great food! The chicken and waffles are amazing! The variety and quality of the sides are really great! I think I'm going to go in there and just try a bunch of sides next time! It's hard to choose just one! Highly recommend this place for good comfort food southern style.
Best place for some chicken and waffles. Food is really good and staff is freindly and the drinks are on point. Can't really remember but I like to get the hot sauce with the honey on the wings, it's my favorite sauce to go along with the waffles. Otherwise would recommend it for a quick bite
Ordered the Temptation with a Mason jar drink. PERFECT!
I can't believe we just found it.
The atmosphere and music is great.
If you're in the area please stop in try anything you can't go wrong. The food is so delicious and the drinks are great.
THIS GAL FROM PHILLY
I DON'T HAVE TO DECIDE RED OR GREEN:) TO ENJOY MY MEAL.
Real down home meal finally!
A Groupon discount got me back through the door of this tasty indulgence. Whether it is the eponymous chicken and waffles or the other southern comfort food staples, Frank's does not disappoint. This visit we added some savory green and red beans and rice tho or waffle plates. Yum. I would come just for the sides, but those waffles are way too good to pass up. There more good grub to eat than you'll room for. Expect some difficult choices.
Awesome chicken, awesome waffles. In fact, I've never had anything bad from here. The atmosphere is amazing and the staff is all really nice. Frank is the man. All around great place!
Never had chicken and waffles before, but we stopped here and the food was AMAZING. the place is very "homey" frank was a great host, and his famous sauce was so good that I had to order another plate to bring home and bought a container of sauce also. The parking up front is limited, but you can drive around to the right of the building for more parking in the back.
Great Mom and Pop operation. Never had Chicken and waffles decided on 4 tender two waffles and side of sweet grit's. Appetizer of fried okra. All great food big bang for the buck more than enough food almost borderline take home bag had to get the peach cobbler in a to go box.
Wait staff was great curtiose and I did not have to wait long we went at 3pm.
We will be back and will be bringing more people to this great place.
We just ate here for the first time and I have found my NEW FAVORITE PLACE!!! I think I was just transported to restaurant heaven. The service was EXCELLENT!! Fast and super friendly, perfect. Atmosphere- awesome, a cool sort of vintage record store vibe, comfortable, clean and just the right size. FOOD!!!! Amazing I can't wait to go back. We had the catfish, perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked. And oh the waffles... delicious- we had the maple bacon pecan waffles and they were 10/10. Fried mushrooms- yum... Mac-n-cheese to die for :) Thanks so much we will be back and bringing friends/family!!
Great place! Wonderful, cozy atmosphere with awesome people! My husband and I had never had chicken and waffles before, I ordered way too much haha, so we brought it home but the prices were great and that people were greater! Good food! I highly recommend it
Today was my first time going there. I have to say it was not a pleasant one and not because of the food but the service. The waitress was barely paying attention to what we were ordering. We repeated ourselves 3 times and she still came out with the wrong order. We didn't even stay to have them remake the order. We just left. The manager was very kind and courteous though. I hope to have a better experience next time.
You don’t understand. This is the greatest restaurant in Albuquerque. It’s food of the gods. I live far away so I can’t go very often but let me tell you - if I had to choose a last meal it would be here. I would eat breakfast lunch and dinner everyday. It’s flavorful and rich yet somehow not too messy. You know how when you eat fried chicken you sorta just eat the fried part and pick at the chicken? Not here. They’re BOTH Good. The waffles are thin crispy and fluffy. The best fries are here. Everyone is so kind too??? It’s perfect. its literally perfect please go.
Great place to eat great southern home cooking. Small homey setting. Wonderful hospitality. Great prices. We went at opening and had no wait but it's worth the wait if you get there at a busy time. A MUST PLACE TO VISIT.
It was packed. Thought that was a good sign. The fried wings were good. Mac n cheese was not the best I ever had, but edible. My fellow food lover recommended I try it. Waffles... very thin and under cooked, almost raw. Fried okra was lovely. Hoping to come back on another day, when not so slammed and so hot. Hoping the Greens will be heavenly, a true Southern classic. Praying everything will be absolutely fabulous. Everyone has bad days every now and again, no? Will come back with fingers crossed.
This is a family run place that loves to serve families. The food is generous and very affordable. But it's not just quantity without quality. The waffles are great and the fried chicken is perfect. It's amazing how well fried chicken, cinnamon, waffles, butter, syrup, and hot sauce go together. It is one of those hole in the wall places that leaves me wanting to come back. If only I lived in Albuquerque.
Get a huge plate of chicken and waffles with (cinnamon and butter, duh)and a basket of friend pickles!! Order their awesome lemonade or sweet tea and you're all set. Frank and the staff running the place are always so nice, plus the cool decor make this a must-try for chicken and waffles in the Abq area.
I really wanted to like this place. I really did. My husband and I wanted to support a black-owned, local business and we were in the mood for some soul food. I recently moved back here from living in North Carolina, where these joints come a dime a dozen.
First, I called twice to place our order but all I got was a voicemail both times-with the voicemail stating they were currently open. Decided to go and order thinking it was an establishment where the food is quickly prepared. When I walked in there was a huge man sitting at the counter who did not greet me. A woman came out and thankfully she was courteous and apologetic when I told her no one picked up the phone 20 min earlier. After verifying I had the right number, she looked at him and he just sat there like he didn’t know what was going on. He had more interaction with the baseball game on the television than he had with me.
Went home after a 25 min wait. The wings and greens were so salty. I had to rinse the greens just to eat them. The macaroni and cheese tasted semi fake. The only thing I really enjoyed was the waffle. Spent over $40 for a very disappointing meal. The sides were so small, there were literally only five bites of coleslaw in the container. Seems like a ripoff. I’m not sure where these high reviews are coming from Because in the South food does not taste like this.
I do not recommend this place. The only thing that kept me from giving one star was the courteous and apologetic server.
Excellent food, excellent customer service and in a cute is adobe house! I myself ordered the 2 waffles with the 6 wings and it was beyond better than I personally expected. The fried wings are all seasoned and lightly spicey and the waffles were sweet but not too overwhelming so you could still pour syrup and glaze it with cinnamon butter.
Definitely recommend to any who love fried chicken! They do also offer seafood options for those who don't eat chicken.
First time here....the dish and side was freakishly delicious. Will definitely be back!
The building is a cute house that they turned into a cozy bistro like
Excellent. More food than i had expected. So we had to take some home which just means the food is less expensive since to stretches over many meals. There was a longer wait than I expected but the home cooking was worth it. Definitely made from scratch goodness. The fries are fresh from potatoes with light seasoning fried in the chicken grease. Next time I'm like I'm just gonna get 3 things of fries. 😁 and then of course take some home. Seemed like the okra (which didn't seem to be cooked from scratch) was a whole bag for only $3 and this girl can put back some fried okra so I'm not exaggerating. The waffles are not Belgian waffles but much thinner and way way way tastier. Kind of difficult to see from the road... took us 3 tries to find it, but look for the pinata store, it's right next door. :) the kids were all for reals "look there's a Donald Trump pinata" and we never saw the restaurant!
I didn't grow up eating chicken and waffles so I am by no means an expert, but I really enjoyed it here. The first time I had chicken and waffles, it was home made and that set the bar. The food here is just as good as home made food. You can tell they really care about the food they make and it comes across in the quality. The food is very reasonably priced and you get a lot of great food. The actual location is not the best because it's not very big or in a good area. Other than the location, it's a great place to eat some delicious food. I definitely recommend eating here.
This place is awesome! Love the focus on music- they were playing Prince and Donna Summer when we went and have several turn tables and a big collection of vinyl. The shrimp and grits are where it’s at. Walking into Frank’s takes you out of the city..... must go to see what I mean!
Very interesting place with limited seating. The chicken was wonderful, add a waffle or two what could go wrong! I am going back to try other fare on the menu. Can get crowded so try this place early in the evening.
Great food and friendly wait staff. One lady came out of the kitchen and gave me a dirty look. Sorry for whatever I did wrong.
If you are in the area you should definitely eat at Frank's Famous Chicken and Waffles! Stellar prices and everything we has was crazy delicious. The service was friendly and prompt. I highly recommend the shrimp and cheesy grits and the friend okra. We ordered a ridiculous amount of food because we wanted to try a nice variety and nothing disappointed.
Outstanding southern comfort food served in a homey environment with excellent music and service. Lots of resturants try to make chicken and waffles southern style but fall short, this place is not one of them. Sweet, crunchy and savory dishes available as well as traditional southern chicken dinner and wings. Menu is detailed and offerings are flexible.
Great meal, service, and value! I could have made a meal simply from the side dishes! The collared greens were the best thing on the table. Can’t wait to go back!!
Love eating here! On the weekends there can be a line but its always worth it. The batter on the chicken is mouth watering and the waffles are a great compliment! Would also reccomend trying the fries as well as the links!
Absolutely amazing. The only place in Albuquerque that does catfish RIGHT. Every bite is delicious. If you're craving REAL southern food, this is the place
Cute hole in the wall type of restaurant. This was the first time I ever tried chicken and waffles. Not bad. I loved the cinnamon in the butter. The chicken tenders were delicious. I got full right away. The only thing is that I asked the waitress 3 times to wipe our table down and she never did.
This place (in ABQ) had the most fantastic fried chicken I’ve ever had and their green beans are to die for! I mean, all the food we got was really good, but those items were something beyond. The waitress was super sweet, too. Our only regret is not having found this place sooner!
Chicken wings are well seasoned and the batter is very crispy! Waffles could be a little thicker but they are yummy. SWEET tea and lemonade are always fresh and delicious and them being served in a Mason jar make it even better in my opinion :)
First thing you experience in the door is very sticky floors. It was several minutes we were finally recognized despite being one of two occupied tables. Several minutes later we were able to order. After a one hour wait the first two of four entrees were delivered. Cold waffles. 15 minutes later the third entree was delivered. Catfish with no tartar sauce which was requested. Another ten minutes later the fourth entree arrived. A chicken sandwich with a very cold bun that had to have just come out of the refrigerator. Yet another ten minutes pass and some of the sides and appetizers showed up. Most of which was obviously prepackaged frozen. The rest of the items ordered never did arrive. Five minutes after that the "tartar sauce" arrived which was quite obviously honey mustard. All of the above brought by a server that didn't seem at all concerned about us or our food. The cashier blamed it all on the "big table" that was also in the restaurant. I counted 7 people at that table and with 4 at ours that means 11 people is too much to handle. Don't go here if you're in a hurry or you want your party to be served their entire order at the same time.
Arrived 10 minutes before closing and was told but they would not be offering any orders to go. Would prefer that they kept the posted hours. That said, the food is very good and I will continue to come back.
The BEST chicken and waffles in town! As well as the best shrimp and grits! Delicious home style cooking with great service! Such a delightful atmosphere with old records playing! Hands down my favorite! A great place to have breakfast or lunch!
I really don't know where to start... this place has atmosphere, warm family staff, music, movies, and delicious food. All tie in together. Chicken and waffles (not enough words), crisp, moist, and tender wings with thin light waffles topped with cinnamon butter. Louisiana Hot Sauce table side to spice it up a notch. Collard greens cooked to perfection!! Chunks of turkey, tender, and makes your mouth water for more. Cheesy grits, simply yum. The list continues. Not only is the food good and atmosphere authentic, it's clean. My favorite part... Kool-aid is offered to wash it all down. They have southern sweet tea and lemonade as well!!
While you wait for your abundant meal to be served you can look at old album covers collectibles, cassettes, etc. that adorn the walls.
We will be back many more times.
Great local business with awesome good! Best chicken in the city. It's not fast food... Hot and made to order. Be patient. It'll be worth the wait!
Our 2019 Summer Trip/Food Tour ended at Frank's Famous Chicken & Waffles and I'll just say it, they took the cup this year. Food was excellent. Atmosphere was warm and felt like home. All I can say is keep doing what you are doing and "How" you are doing it, regardless of what some of these "People" write on this page. Thank you all for your hospitality and the obvious love you put into every item that we had. The Williams Family. Shalom!
Delicious home style food, friendly wait staff and a comfortable atmosphere (they were playing my music in the background). The only downside was the small size of their old place. Hopefully the new place is much bigger!
Amazing food! Koolaid in a Mason jar! The vibe is mellow & has a down to earth, homey feel. I definitely suggest the catfish! The whole menu is tasty though.
The waitress was pleasant, but totally unavailable. Had to refill my own beverage twice despite a sign stating Staff Only. The owner was sitting next to the service counter, we met eyes, but didn't say a thing. You pay tableside which was a trap. The waitress graciously offered to provide a take away sweet tea, which I accepted. Six minutes later, no tea and no waitress; just left. I've had better waffles at IHOP and much better chicken tenders at Raisin Cain. Can't recommend this place.
I'd been dying to try out Frank's since it first opened. I finally had the opportunity to try them a couple of weeks ago, and OH MY GOODNESS, it was like a...read this and 178 more
